Senior Estimator
Senior Estimators – Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver
Techne PMC is seeking experienced Senior Estimators to join our teams in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver. These positions will support major capital projects across the mining, metals, energy, infrastructure, and industrial sectors.
Responsibilities:
Prepare detailed capital cost estimates throughout all project development stages, from conceptual studies to execution.
Develop Class 5 through Class 1 estimates in accordance with project requirements and industry standards.
Review engineering deliverables, quantities, drawings, specifications, execution plans, and schedules.
Develop estimate breakdown structures, pricing databases, unit rates, productivity assumptions, and indirect cost calculations.
Coordinate estimating inputs from engineering, procurement, construction, project controls, and external suppliers.
Prepare labour, material, equipment, subcontracting, escalation, contingency, and project overhead estimates.
Conduct benchmarking, historical cost analysis, and estimate validation.
Prepare estimate basis documents, assumptions, exclusions, qualifications, and reconciliation reports.
Support cost-risk assessments, value engineering, change management, forecasting, and project stage-gate reviews.
Present estimate results and recommendations to clients, project teams, and senior management.
Review contractor, supplier, and third-party estimates for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with project scope
Support the development and continuous improvement of Techne PMC estimating tools, databases, and procedures.
Requirements:
Degree or diploma in engineering, construction management, quantity surveying, or a related field.
Minimum of 10–15 years of relevant estimating or cost-engineering experience.
Experience preparing estimates for major capital projects.
Strong understanding of engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project execution methodologies.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software; experience with cost databases and Power BI is an asset.
Knowledge of AACE International estimating classifications, recommended practices, and cost-estimating principles.
Strong analytical, organizational, report-writing, and client communication skills.
Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple estimating assignments.
Experience in mining, metals, energy, utilities, infrastructure, or heavy industrial projects is considered an asset.
Bilingual English and French communication skills are an asset for the Montreal position.
